The payout will be long lasting.

You are the most important person in your life. Nobody knows you more than you. Not your mother, father, sister, brother, lover, or dog. It’s more important than ever for you to truly love yourself, and be yourself.

It’s extremely likely that you’ve heard something like this before, maybe from a loved one, or even in the workplace. What hasn’t been mentioned is how people will genuinely like you more if you live as the person you know best.

Everybody wants to be liked by others. …

And we all know it.

Dr. Sara Cody, the health officer for Santa Clara County in the San Francisco Bay Area, made an announcement last Friday. It was not full of unknowns and possibilities like all of her other press conferences she’s participated in over the past 16 months or so. This was a clear and concise recommendation, that sounded more like an order.

“We are here today to urge, urge every school at every level to open their classrooms for full in person learning for all students.”

Is the pandemic over?

Will unvaccinated students have a choice to remain in distance learning?

What will…

It doesn’t require perfection

For a guy like me, intermittent fasting was not on the menu of lifestyle choices for 2021. Eating what I wanted, when I wanted, and how I wanted, became a luxury I refused to give up. While not necessarily overweight, I continuously was defined as obese on the BMI chart, at 6’5’, 230 lbs.

Even after realizing I was in the category of the morbidly overweight, there wasn’t much hesitation to give up that delicious Garlic Chicken Gourmet pizza, or my favorite Al Pastor tacos from the local taqueria. My wife wasn’t overly concerned, so why would I be? …

The answer is primarily physical.

My friend Whitney can’t seem to comprehend it. She’s recently divorced, and back in the dating scene. Bar hopping, dick pics, guy friend confusion, swiping left and right galore, and so much more.

Let the games begin…

The question she continues to ask me, as a long time, platonic guy friend, that has been a part of her life since long before we were both married.

Why do they all think they can have me so damn easily?

A validated explanation might be simpler than most think. While women tend to see the landscape of sex in a different hemisphere…

One flight made all the difference in the world

I simply remember the lights. Bright red and flashing without any understanding of what had just occurred. As the comprehension began to creep back into my mind, I realized what had happened to me. I was sucker punched in the face, and did it ever hurt…

I saw the faces of the elementary school students I worked with at the time. Staring at the dark puffy, swollen face that had been bashed in a few weeks before. I could see their concern for their mentor.

A much needed change was in…

Power can be an abusive tool

Approximately 25 million women and 2.8 million men experience attempted or completed rape in their lives, just in the US alone. Still rape is the most under-reported crime, meaning many of the victims suffer alone.

Including me. On Thursday, February 17th, 2011, I was raped, and I’ll never forget it.

When I lived in Korea, I’d worked at an English academy for middle school students, but also started to tutor adults that worked for various companies in Seoul. This particular student that I started tutoring worked for Samsung Corporation, and was looking to improve her business English. Cecile, my new…

The time to start is now

“It was like a fire ravished me!”, my grandmother sobbed after returning from the hospital.

My grandfather had just passed away from esophageal cancer, days after being admitted to the hospital. He was 69 years old. At the time, I didn’t quite understand the gravity of the moment, as a 9 year old kid.

I wasn’t that close to him. I had faint memories of riding the Muni down the streets of San Francisco, grabbing onto him. Otherwise, it was just another day in my life.

Fast forward 17 years, and did I ever…

The day I entered a hidden dungeon

Heart fluttering, palms sweating, and thoughts circulating. These are the beginning stages of an anxiety attack that can come out of nowhere, or might be triggered by a specific event or situation. When reflecting on my first anxiety attack in 2005, I will always thank my lucky stars that I’m still alive today to tell the story.

It was a warm July night, driving home from the KRON news station headquarters in San Francisco, when I began to feel my hands swell up. My forehead sweating profusely while navigating my vehicle from the…

So does bouncing back from it…

I’ll do pretty much anything else!

I really don’t mind doing my laundry.

I hate putting away my laundry…

I’ll dry my laundry any day of the week!

I hate putting away my laundry…

I’ll take the garbage out three times a day, grinning ear to ear!

I hate putting away my laundry…

I’ll vacuum the entire house, I’ll even do it again if I have time!

I hate putting away my laundry…

Mopping is my jam!

I hate putting away my laundry…

You say cleaning the toilet is a chore? More like a guilty pleasure!

I hate putting away…
